Metal News -- Zebulon Pike II : The Deafening Twilight

"Okay people. In the left corner, weighing 200 pounds, we’ve got Epic. And in the right corner, weighing 400 pounds, we’ve got EPIC. Guess in which category the Zebulon Pike men are to be found. Right corner, indeed. Let’s get ready to rumble!

In my opinion, there’s no band alive that can beat this foursome in terms of sheer epicness. What you get when listening to this album is some seriously demanding Sabbathian stoner-doom-70’s rock-stylized heaviness. I’m not kidding here, kids. When i say demanding, i mean DEMANDING. This is an album which cannot be listened to in a relaxed way. You actually have to concentrate and listen 20 times before you get the drift. For me, this album was a gift out of heaven. In times of quick bites and easy-listening metal-muzak, Zebulon Pike delivers first rate quality stuff.

Except for ‘the wizzard’s fountain’, each song on this album is quite long (12 to 22 minutes). With a total of five songs, you are guaranteed to enjoy over 70 minutes of brilliance. Every piece of art on this CD contains a continuous flow tension-building riffs and grooves, ultimately ending in an explosion of … more riffs and pounding grooves, led by the superb rythm section: drums that hit hard with an ‘H’ and a grinding bassline. The guitars start from here, spiraling there way up to the highest point of the pyramid, firing off leads and riffs that will get your withered rockers heart pounding again. I can’t get enough of this!

Another thing: there’s no singer. Good! A singer would only ruin this album. The guitars are the singers on this one. Who needs singers anyway!!?

If you haven’t got any problem with actually concentrating hard on music, this album’s for you. The reward will be oooh so great.

If you’re planning to order this, also order the first CD. Equally great stuff!"
